En 2019, Tamara Louault souhaitait se reconnecter avec un pays, l’Ethiopie, dont elle avait les origines sans avoir l’histoire. C’était avant tout une aventure personnelle. C’est ainsi qu’elle fit le voyage du « retour ». Celui qui marque à jamais l’esprit du voyageur. In 2019, Tamara Louault wanted to reconnect with a country, Ethiopia, whose origins she had without having its history. It was above all a personal adventure. This is how she made the "return trip". The kind that forever marks the spirit of a traveler.
Elle ne découvrit non pas qu’un pays, mais une autre famille, des rites et des coutumes. Des accents mélodieux aux champs de caféiers qui traversaient le pays. She did not just discover a country, but another family, rites and customs. From melodious accents to the fields of coffee trees that cross the country.
L'Ethiopie, ce pays situé sur la Corne de l’Afrique, au climat aride, traversé par la vallée du grand rift s’étendait en face d’elle. Ce n’était plus une terre inconnue sur une carte parmi tant d’autres, c’était aussi sa terre, une partie de son histoire. Ethiopia, a country located on the Horn of Africa, with an arid climate, crossed by the great rift valley stretched in front of her. It was no longer an unknown land on a map among many others, it was also her land, part of her history.
Berceau de l’humanité mais aussi du café, boisson qu’elle affectionne plus que tout autre. Était-ce un hasard quand il y a quelques années elle avait commencé à travailler dans l’industrie du café ? Cradle of humanity but also of coffee, a drink she loves more than any other. Was it just a coincidence that a few years ago she started working in the coffee industry?
Séduite, perplexe, curieuse, Tamara avait ramené dans ses valises des histoires d’hommes et de femmes qu’elle avait rencontrées. Des bouts de vie de fermiers qui se ressemblaient sous ce ciel où le soleil ne prenait jamais de congé. Des rencontres qui lui firent comprendre qu’elle pouvait changer la vie de certaines personnes tout en partageant avec les autres ce qu’elle aimait : le café. Enticed, perplexed, curious, Tamara had brought back in her suitcase stories of the men and women she had met. Bits of the lives of farmers who looked alike under this sky where the sun never took leave. Meetings that made her understand that she could change the lives of some people while sharing with others what she loved: coffee.
C’est ainsi qu’après de nombreux voyages, des apprentissages sur la culture du café en Éthiopie, vêtu de son Gabi, elle assista à sa première cérémonie du café : le jebena buna. Un apanage réservé aux femmes qui lui montrèrent comment s’en servir et l’importance de ce rite. This is how after many trips, and initiations about the coffee culture in Ethiopia, dressed in her Gabi, she attended her first coffee ceremony: the jebena buna. A prerogative reserved for women who showed her how to use it and the importance of this rite.
Avec le Jebena Buna il y avait aussi la tasse Sini et ses nombreuses décorations autrefois faites à la main. Tamara, goûta, toucha, sentit, goûta encore, se brûla les doigts lors du processus d’apprentissage de la torréfaction traditionnelle. Along with the Jebena Buna there was also the Sini cup and its many formerly handmade decorations. Tamara, tasted, touched, smelled, tasted again, burned her fingers in the process of learning traditional roasting.
“Buna” qui signifie “café” en amharique, langue éthiopienne n’était pas qu’un simple café, c’était son histoire et grâce à celle-ci, un projet était né : promouvoir les cafés de spécialité, en commençant par l’origine, le café éthiopien. “Buna” meaning “coffee” in Amharic, the Ethiopian language, was not just coffee, it was its history and thanks to it, a project was born: to promote specialty coffees, starting from the origin, Ethiopian coffee.
Le mot d’ordre chez Buna ? Le terroir. Our calling at Buna ? The land.
Consciente de la situation précaire des producteurs, et du problème climatique qui influence les récoltes, Tamara privilégie le commerce direct en effectuant la sélection des cafés sur place, auprès de producteurs pratiquant la biodynamie. Buna s’est engagé auprès des fermiers locaux à acheter le café à un prix plus élevé que le circuit classique pour permettre à ces familles de vivre de leur travail et d’en êtres fières. Aware of the precarious situation of the producers, and of the climatic problem which influences the harvests, Tamara favors direct trade by selecting the coffees on site, from producers practicing biodynamics. Buna has made a commitment to local farmers to buy coffee at a higher price than the classic circuit to allow these families to live from their work and be proud of it.
